Hospice Nursing Care

A steady hand through the hardest journey

The hospice nurse is many things at once: a skilled clinician, a patient teacher, an advocate — and a calm, familiar face in the room when everything feels uncertain.

Our hospice nurses visit regularly, know your loved one’s story, and notice the small changes that matter. They manage symptoms with expertise, guide the family through what to expect, and bring a steadiness that families tell us they cling to. In the final days, when time feels both too fast and too slow, your nurse is there — unhurried, present, and sure.

Who it’s for

Hospice nursing care is for patients in Denver and Colorado Springs who have chosen hospice — and for the families walking beside them who want expert, gentle guidance at home. Whether your loved one was just admitted to hospice or you’ve been on this road a while, our nurses meet you exactly where you are.

How to start

Call (888) 929-2050 — any time, day or night. We’ll have a gentle conversation about your situation, explain what hospice offers, and arrange an evaluation. If hospice is right, nursing visits typically begin within days. Hospice is covered 100% under the Medicare hospice benefit for eligible patients — including nursing visits, medications, and equipment. Medicaid and most private insurance cover it as well, at no cost to you.

Frequently asked questions

How often does the hospice nurse visit?

It depends on your loved one’s needs — typically once or twice a week at first, increasing as needs change. In the final days, visits become more frequent. And between visits, a nurse is always a phone call away.

What happens at the first visit?

Your nurse will sit with you — really sit with you — and listen. They’ll assess comfort, review medications, answer every question, and begin building the care plan. There’s no rush and no pressure. Most families tell us they felt relief after that first visit.

Can we keep our own doctor?

Yes. Your own physician can remain involved and work alongside our hospice medical director, or our team can take the lead — whichever you prefer. We’ll coordinate either way.

Isn’t hospice only for the very last days?

This is the biggest misunderstanding about hospice — and the saddest, because it robs families of support. Hospice is for the final months of life, not just the final days, and families consistently tell us they wish they’d called sooner. Earlier hospice means more comfort, more guidance, and more meaningful time together.
